Simon International book / catalogue

£5.50Price

Dino Gavina formed Gavina spa in to produce the early designs from the likes of Achille Castiglioni, Vico Magistretti, Carlo and Tobia Scarpa amongst others. Due to financial problems the company went into bankruptcy and was bought by Knoll International in 1968. This gave them access to Marcel Breuer’s Wassily, Cesca and Laccio chairs that Gavina had bought the rights to some years earlier along with other designs from the so called Gavina group. Meanwhile, Dino Gavina almost immediately started Simon international after the demise of Gavina SpA. Simon like the original Gavina company went on to produce many iconic designs by various international artists and designers such as Carlo Scarpa, Kuzihide Takahama and Man Ray as part of the Ultramobile 1971 collection (Beyond Furniture). Also illustrated in this book are pieces by Enzo Mari’s from his Autoprogettzione project. We have at times held this book in stock and Erik Almqvist book Hammer and Nails which is currently available is very much based around Autoprogettzione. It’s surprising to find these products amongst the Simon collection because Mari’s ideology for Autoprogettzione was very much furniture for anybody - build it yourself! This book is small format book and is a Simon International catalogue featuring the companies most important designs. It is a great Italian post war design reference compendium. Simon International was purchased by Cassina in 2013.
